Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, Camíla Isabel is a multifaceted artist whose talents span vocals, poetry, performance, and visual art installation. She began her artistic journey as a vocal student and quickly established herself as a dynamic presence in Chicago’s vibrant soul, jazz and avant-garde scenes. Camíla has performed at renowned venues such as the Jazz Showcase and Andy’s Jazz Club, and was highlighted in events like the Elastic Arts Improvisational Music Series, and the Artist Corps Series with the Hyde Park Jazz Festival.

In early 2025, she captivated audiences at the Epiphany Center for the Arts during the Indigo Session alongside Aliyah Jones, completed a residency at the Bronzeville Winery, and was invited to showcase her music at Arts and Public Life to highlight the work of the legendary Elizabeth Catlett for the University of Chicago later that summer. For Juneteenth 2026, Camila Isabel was invited to Western Front Art Center in Vancouver Canada, to accompany Angel Bat Dawid on her composition of ‘Henry Box Brown’ - Tales of a Magical Knee-grow’ in vocal performance and to design and create, a physical and visual insulation piece; a liberative and AfroFuturist interpretation of his vessel to freedom. Closing out the summer, Camila was accompanied movement artists and composers celebrating Nina Simone in ‘Peaches’, a part of Music Moves Chicago's ‘Cuatro Mujeres’, a diasporic exploration of ‘Four Woman’.

Her artistry seamlessly blends the intricate sounds and textures of jazz and soul with rhythms inspired by her Caribbean heritage, evoking intimacy and nostalgia in both her solo and collaborative work. In her long standing duo, Quiet As Kept, she joins bassist and composer Meliodas to write original compositions, and arrangements, set for release in spring 2027.

Beyond her artistic practice, Camíla is the founder and CEO of The.BlkRoom, a co-creation studio and community organization dedicated to uplifting BIPOC artists in Chicago. Launched in September 2021 as a member-based music studio for her peers, it has grown into a 2,000 sq. ft. loft in West Garfield Park. Today, The.BlkRoom serves over 7,000 members, hosting numerous events, workshops, and wellness programs through a donation-based model, providing a safe space for artists and creative businesses to thrive. Earlier this year, it launched the Bloom Residency to empower Black women in 2025, working tirelessly to bridge opportunities and support emerging creatives in Chicago.

In addition to her role as founder, Camíla served as Outreach Coordinator for the Elastic Arts Outreach Program and Dark Matter Residency Coordinator for six years, recently transitioning to full-time position as founder in CEO of The.BlkRoom. Camila continues to expand her commitment to connecting diverse artists with essential resources and amplifying their voices within Chicago’s artistic landscape through special projects and programs with other arts and social service organizations around the city.

Camíla’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive, creative communities underscores her impactful contribution to the city’s artistic industry. She continues to push boundaries and inspire others to thrive within Chicago’s vibrant arts scene through personal projects, her arts and administrative work.
